Rotary kiln is a widely used type of kiln for calcinating active lime. In such industries as building materials, metallurgy, chemistry and environment protection, the widespread use of rotary kiln majorly aims at the mechanical. chemical, or physical treatment of solid materials.

The use of rotary kilns started in the production of cement, whose complete production process can be summarized as ‘two grinding and one calcination ’.The ‘one calcination’ refers to the process that calcinates the raw materials which have been compounded through grinding into clinker under the high temperature of rotary kilns. Hence, the rotary kiln is very crucial for cement production and is named as the ‘heart’ of cement factories.

In the building material industry, apart from being used for calcinating the cement clinker, rotary kilns are also used for calcinating clay, limestone and drying the slag.
